Bleeding
If the bleeding is severe you must staunch the flow as follows: - Press a thick layer of gauze onto the wound and wrap tightly with a cotton bandage.
- Place a layer of cotton wool over this and apply another layer of cotton bandage.
- Use surgical tape to secure and cover all with adhesive bandage or tape. Don't stick elastoplast to the hair.
- If you don't have bandaging material available improvise with a towel, clean rag or clothing.
- If blood continues to seep through apply another tight layer - don't remove the first as this will disturb any clotting.
- For places you cannot bandage apply pressure to the wound with a pad or cloth and get to the vet immediately.
